Problem Note 66525: Running a HANA query could generate "ERROR: Unable to transcode data to/from UCS-2 encoding"

When trying to read a HANA table using SAS^® software, you might encounter an error similar to the following:

ERROR: Unable to transcode data to/from UCS-2 encoding

The error occurs if a column value contains an invalid character or byte sequence.

To work around the issue, you must filter out the invalid bytes from the HANA table before reading it from SAS.
